The North Uttlesford Primary Care Network (PCN) is launching its Covid and flu vaccination program at Lord Butler Leisure Center in Peaslands Road, Saffron Walden next month.

The PCN includes the firms of Gold Street, Crocus, Newport and Thaxted.

The clinics will begin on Saturday October 1 – with care home residents and housebound people being the focus of the NCP’s attention during the interim period.

Clinical Director Richard Boyce said: “Along with vaccinations, local pioneering practices will take up-to-date measurements and readings (height and weight for example) to ensure medical records are as accurate as possible.

“To support this approach, we may contact patients ahead of their appointment to ask them to complete short health surveys if they are able to use text messaging or the internet.

“If patients are unable to use smartphones or the internet in this way, there will be a team on site for most weekends, we are operational to ensure this vital data is collected for all of our patients. and no one misses them.

“Around 26 million people across England will be eligible for an autumn booster over the next few weeks, which includes the over-50s, people with weakened immune systems, healthcare workers and social services, nursing home residents, housebound people and pregnant women.

“Patients who are enrolled in our four practices will also be offered a flu shot at the same time.

“Clinics will be running every Saturday from October 1 through November 12 inclusive. Clinicians are in the process of trying to expand appointment availability by also offering clinics on Fridays during the same period without affecting the normal operations of general medicine.

“Practices are asking patients to wait for a text or phone call before booking at Lord Butler, but if you haven’t heard from your practice by October 1, please contact them to book.

“The Surgeries would like to thank all the volunteers who nearly filled the available slots for the sessions we have planned, as well as 1Life and the Lord Butler Leisure Center team, for continuing to support our mission to protect our people from Covid and flu this winter.”
